Texas, Galveston

Monday, July 7th, 2008

We made it from the West Coast to the Mid Continental Coast.  The Gulf of Mexico, is beautiful in its own way. The Humidity is very high very and the brown gulf waters feel like they are sticking to you, the raw power of the place is very interesting though.  Nature's power and Man's building make this place ripe hurricane fodder. Most of the land in Galveston is actually 10 feet below sea level, a giant sea wall/levee surrounds the place, but most buildings are on 10 foot stilts to compensate for the elevation deficit and anticipate the future calamities.

My Dad sprung for the treat of a lifetime, he chartered an airboat to take us through the lagoon and shallow wetlands.

It felt very different than a regular boat, it was more like skating across the water than cutting through it especially when we turned. The propeller was powered by a 496 cubic inch Chevy Engine, so this little boat could move!

When we slowed down in the shallow 1 foot deep waters we got to see stingrays, sharks, shrimp, egrets, and many other organisms.

Thank you Dad for this wonderful Opportunity.
