Oklahoma-Are there really mountains in Oklahoma?

Tuesday, July 8th, 2008

Upon arriving at our destination, Medicine Park, Oklahoma, after what seemed to be a rather short 7 hour drive, the first thing that my dad wanted to do was ascend his favorite Mountain, Mt. Scott in the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge in western Oklahoma near Lawton. It rises 1000 feet above the prairies to a height of 2460 feet.  My dad has been visiting and climbing on this mountain since he was a youngster in the 1930's. But this time was rather magical, as we got to watch the evening rain shower, in the background,  approach the mountain and rain down upon us.
