Oklahoma-Bombing Memorial

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

Our Bombs Smell like Roses.

I recently visited the National Memorial for the 168 people that died in the Oklahoma City bombing, of which 19 were children. The Memorial is vast, eloquent, and elaborate with it towering marble walls, it’s vast tranquil pool, and with one bronze chair, containing seats made of Granite fragments of the Federal building, for every victim of the bombing. Even 13 years after the bombing, peoples’ emotions still run high and their outpouring in remembrance of these people is great even to this day. Overlooking it all is a giant statue of Jesus, entitled "Jesus Wept".
I couldn’t help but think, where is the Memorial for victims of the federal government’s attack on the Waco Compound and all the people that died there? Does anyone remember the 21 children that died there at the hands of the FBI? How many people still recall the Ruby Ridge massacre? Where are the Memorials for the victims of our quiet bombings and covert operations in over 30 countries since our nuclear bombing of Japan at the end of World War Two? Are there any memorials on US soil for the hundreds of thousands that were burned and radiated to death by our nuclear bombs at Nagasaki and Hiroshima? Where are the memorials for the people and children that are dying right now in Iraq? Their blood stained images run through my head. "Jesus Wept." Does he weep for them also or only Americans.

Do we only memorialize deaths that "bad people" inflict on us, and conveniently forget the deaths that the Federal Government of the "Good Ole" USA inflicts on others, locally and globally?
While arrogant use of force, death, hatred, and blood debts, are the mainstay of our foreign policy, at least our bombs smell like roses.
